This is a nice WW2 tank sim with a learning curve.Right now this is the only sim with a sense of authenticity and immersion. It has its problems like cumbersome controls and odd sound effects, but they are not game stoppers. There is an unofficial patch available.With a mod community growing, this sim may have a bright feature. Right now folks are working on African campaign. If you want to get a feeling how it was during those battles, this is a sim for you.

Poker Academy V2 is a must buy!I have been playing poker all my life, but only recently have I focused on Texas Hold Em.Each time I play, I increase my skills, but I don't play often enough against quality opponents.When I came across Poker Academy V2, I was skeptical about how much it would help me learn the game. Well, let me tell you, I am significantly better than I was before.

Not only are the computer opponents better than any other poker game out there, but the program allows you to see every statistic possible about your cards, the pot odds, and how you bet overall.For example, I learned that I was very passive pre-flop but very aggressive post-flop. I also learned what happens when I call to see a flop with the various different card combos and how many outcomes are possible.The programmers, who have set up an extremely complex algorithm to run the game, give you access to all the components that make up that code so you can get a better idea of all the odds and percentages of everything that happens in a round of poker.When you watch on TV and you see people call "time," they are calculating in their head the pot odds, which includes how much they have invested in the pot compared to the total number of cards that will help them win or lose.Poker Academy V2 does this as well, so you can begin to pick up patterns with certain hands, which translates into better and smarter betting on a real table.

The best thing I can say about this Poker training tool (I think of it more as a tool than a game) is how well I have done at a real Texas Hold Em table.During my most recent trip, on a $3/6 Limit Table, I won over $280 in about 2 hours by using all the knowledge I have gained about how to play Texas Hold Em and about how I play my game. In other words, the more I know about my skills, the better I act at the table.For the price Amazon sells this product compared to how much I won on my last trip, I would say Poker Academy V2 is well worth it.Spend the money now, learn to play the game better (no matter what your experience level is), and go win at a real table.

Animamundi (Win/Mac) Review

...it's still an amazing game!The voices are wonderful, the artwork is stunningly beautiful & the story lines are full of deliciously angsty shonen-ai (& sometimes yaoi) plots.

First off, as others have said before, be aware that this IS a visual novel.There's no real movement during game play & ALOT of reading.There ARE also some plot holes, but when a game is designed with over 22 different endings (some good and some bad) there's bound to be a few minor mistakes here and there.It's nothing that really detracts from the game.

In addition, many have said they found the game play process difficult and confusing - IT IS; even for a visual novel this game is atypically difficult.However, the complexity is all part of the fun, in my opinion.Still, for those of you who've gone beyond entertained to frustrated beyond belief, there is help!A complete walkthrough is now available via the game's Wikipedia entry.I'd give the full address, but the "Review Guidelines" say that I can't, so do a quick Wiki search and check it out.

Carmegeddon: Maximum Damage Review

One of the most fun, addictive, and controversial games of all time on the PC.

Based on the movie "Death Race 2000", you score points by taking out other drivers, and running over Pedz (Pedestrians). Two sequals were spawned from this game 'II' and "TDR 2000".

This will not work properly on XP, NT, or Vista... thanks to no backwards compatibility support from Microsoft..:PpPp

Turok Evolution Review

bought this pc game new...had problem with the game not saving your progress forcing you to start new game everytime you played it...this problem happened on both laptop and desktop gateway computers...seller had same problem on his computer with another new game he had on the shelf and the one i bought from him and sent back to him to try to fix...seller eventually returned all of my money..so there appears to be a problem with this older game playing on newer computers..we tried everything we could think of including running in slower modes..end of review

War Leaders Review

For years I've been dreaming of a game set in WWII with a grand strategy map and Real Time battles. It seemed to me most game designers either made one or the another but not both. I mean it would be a winning formula and Im glad to say with War Leaders its finally here!

In War Leaders you play as a world leader during WWII from Hitler to Franklin D. Rosevelt and you are in command of your entire nation from R&D, Money, Oil and other Resources, Military, Politics and Deplomancy.

There are three ways to play the single RTS battles, online battles or campaign and the single player grand campaign.

There are some issues and bugs with this game. I was getting a random crash after I would play a RTS battle and if you have several units on the battlefield at once it can slow down even on my 2.66 ghz Core 2 Duo CPU so I recommend at least a Duel Core processor to run this game smoothly.

The AI is pretty easy in battle on easy difficulty but the diplomancy is weak. You have to gain favor though to impress a nation to trade or ally with you. I found that even if I bent over backwards to please a nation of interest the AI still did not trust me or if they did they would not side with me. However, I found out that just like in the real war many nations were looked down upon even before the war simply because of their culture. I played as Japan and found it almost impossible to ally with even Nazi Germany which was real history. So diplomancy is difficult.

The other features include research which is important since you will be racing for the latest technology as they did in the real war. This takes a long time to research some techs so make sure you invest in more resources by taking over resource rich countries.

The RTS battles are simple but fun. You can assign units groups such as 1, 2, 3, etc. and organize them by type like infantry, artillary, light tanks, medium tanks, AA guns, etc. The AI seems to be smart on the battlefield and will look for the most strategic defense or offensive location. They will retreat as well if you overwelm them with more units or bombing runs. Air planes such as level bombers help you to soften up the enemey placements on the map.

Graphics are dated since the game was released in 2007 in Germany but they get the job done. The world map in full of detail and curves as the earth does. Audio and voice acting is horrible. Whom ever did the voice acting for the English language sounds like a dork - seriously. Normally this would reduce the games total score but since its easy to go to the settings menu and turn off speech in the game I found that it was a simple fix and did not distract from the overall game experience.

There is a patch out (v1.3) which is the UK version but will work for the US version as well and is recommended. There are cheats as well Alt+B will build all untis and buildings instantly. Alt+M gives you more money and Alt+O gives you oil if you run out.

Overall, War Leaders is a decent RTS game that is set apart by its innovation. That is why I gave this game a four star rating because it deserves this praise. There are bugs and bad voices in the game but nothing except the random crashing that will take away from the gameplay. If your looking for something different or are like me and have been dreaming of a WWII game that combines RTS with Grand Strategy together then War Leaders is your game.

when i first played this game back in 97, i really love playing it and i know i would love to play it again, but i am unable to install it on my computer because of windows xp. i have tried several downloads and patches but nothing works. if i can get it to work, great, but until then, i'm afraid it's thumbs down on this purchase and the company i purchased it from.

Carmageddon 2: Carpocalypse Now Review

no point in repeating what others have said.
The missions are a bit frustrating and u'll need to get help off web - google under "Carmageddon 2 stategy", also look under cheats- cuz those sites often give tips, too.
Notice that u can buy a book(used) here on Amazon that helps. The missions aren't explained in the game, some of them u would NEVER guess the objective on your own. Get the book or search the web.
If u follow the map on one mission, U'll try smashing your car repeatedly into walls. Who'd guess that u're to jump from rooftop to rooftop?Get the book or help off the web or u'll go nowhere.
Realistic crashes, lotsa fun. Go way off the main course and find all kindsa cool stuff to get into.
This game could keep u happy 4ever. Start it up and have fun destroying stuff. Better than destroying real stuff or people and animals. Fun, tons of off-course stuff to exlore.
At first, I kept running outa time. Hit as many pedestrians as possible, as this gives u more time on the clock.
If u never get past a certain level, so what? Its a great game that u'll come back to for mindless fun. Replay levels to sock away more points for later.
Tip: At lower levels, just keep the red car they give u. Buy armor, offensive and power for the car. The car u are given at first is actually better than most. Dont waste all your points buying other cars. (unless u want to)
At the higher levels, u'll need lotsa points to buy a big vehicle. The game changes around level 7 or 8. The old tricks to destroy your opponents don't work against the huge vehicles u face as opponents. U've been warned.
After u get enough skill to play without running outa time, explore every nook and cranny. Lota stuff to explore. Don't always stick to the main course.
At first, I couldn't play without running outa time. That was OK, cause it was just fun to play.
Its a GAME! Who cares if u lose sometimes. The simulated violence offends some. Its a game. Take out your frustrations here, not in real life.
I only fear that one day I'll be forced to go to Longhorn (or XP) and maybe the game will stop working.
A good game is a good game. If u need to always have the newest games, buy something else.
I have WinMe, 4Mb video RAM. What a joke of a PC. On very rare occasions, the games stutters for a few seconds. This is extremely rare and passes within seconds. Hardly enough to matter.
Occasionally u see odd bugs, like part of a car passing thru another. This is fairly rare. This game is so very good that its few problems don't matter.
If u want the latest, greatest, go elsewhere. But I can't imagine a game being that much better, or any better, than this one. This is a gem. If u have it,keep it. Or buy it.

Shadow Ops Red Mercury Review

If you liked the book, you will absolutely fall in love with this game.If you've never heard of the book but enjoy dystopian fiction or just vintage video games, then this is a wonderful addition to your collection.

The storyline is deliciously dark and depressing and is certain to make you tingle if you love ironic tragedy.The graphics are clearly dated, but match the grave tone of the story and bleak mood of the characters perfectly.The puzzles are interesting and original and unlike too many adventure games, are actually well integrated into the plot.This is an irreplaceable classic!

Dragon Age: Origins Review

First things first: in the past I have chastised EA a number of times for its release of cookie-cutter games, crippled with atrocious DRM schemes. So, in all fairness, I now have to say this: DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS IS A GAMER's DREAM! It is an excellent game - and it comes FREE of any DRM madness. So, thank you EA for listening to your customers (let's only hope this new trend holds...).

This is one of those games that are easy to control, a joy to roam through and fun to play at no end.
I am a huge cRPG fan and cannot remember such a great companion/squad cRPG ever since the Baldur's Gate Saga. And to tell you the truth, this is the game I was dreaming of being able to play one day while playing BG (yeah, by now we all know that NEVERWINTER NIGHTS never delivered).

There are about a dozen gender/race/class/background choices and a great many combinations in forming your party. The armor and the weapons are exceptionally made and everything shows on your characters. And the graphics are truly beautiful! You have to see the rendering of flames to believe them.
Nevertheless, what really stands out is the gameplay. Every battle is a puzzle to be solved, pausing ever so often to reallocate enemies to the best suited party members (a feature I loved in BG!). Of course one can always turn off the autopause feature and let the AI take over the rest of your party and turn the game into an hack&slash action RPG (not exactly my cup of tea but, hey, it's still nice to know it's there).

Finally, this is a game made just like the classics in many ways, including duration. I am now playing the game for over 20 hours and I feel that I barely scraped the surface! DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS is one satisfying RPG!

My only gripe is this: I did not appreciate such short dialogue options. Most fit a single line and more often than not they consist of a couple of words. I like my RPGs to be wordy and challenging to my verbal imagination as well - and I want my characters to participate in the humor, not just provoke it or react to it. Remember the long dialogue options in BG? Well, expect to find DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS much more laconic.
I guess 10 years of fast-paced FPS and blitzkrieging RTS do take their toll...

Now this is the COLLECTOR's EDITION which is almost 30% more expensive than the Standard edition. For the extra money you get: a tin case, a cloth map, a bonus DVD (soundtrack, making of documentary, concept art & wallpapers and strategy tips), an in-game quest and character as well as three enchanted items. Is it worth it? You be the judge.

The blood sprays, the swords clang and the spells explode. The animations are beautifully made and add a lot to both enjoyment and immersion. There is a verse in Homer's Iliad I love: "the warrior fell and his armor echoed around him" - and I was reminded of it many a times throughout the game.

This game will stay with you. Do not miss on it.

Gameplay
Dragon Age: Origins is a 3D oriented RPG based in a dark, heroic, fantasy realm where moral choices have a lasting impression on the people you meet, the members of your own party and the world around you. The inclusion of subtitle "Origins" in the game's title refers to the six unique origin stories available to new heroes as a new game begins. Each of these has an impact on the player's motivations and his or her experience, and renders a unique prelude, path, and possible ending(s) to the game. There are many different endings to the game based on the origin story of the character and the choices you make as you play through the game. The game features three character classes--warrior, mage, and rogue--and three races of being--Human, Elf or Dwarf--that can assume these classes. Although most game elements, such as weapons, magic, etc., are available to any character, each class and race has different strengths, abilities and affinities which lend themselves to better utilizing different elements. Dragon Age: Origins is a single player game based on party-based gameplay and combat where the player can join, control and quest with up to three non-player characters (NPCs). Mortal Kombat Trilogy Review

I was actually expecting ALOT from this game, the conversion of UMK3 on Saturn was ARCADE PERFECT! Most of the time 2-D fighters are great on the Saturn. This one unfortunately wasn't. all the frames of character animation missing from the Playstation conversion of the game are still missing here(some of the arcade background animation was added back in though making them look great). According to some people the graphics are worse on this conversion b/c they are less sharp & the sprites are slightly smaller. I actually find this to be a plus b/c the characters look alot less pixelated. I hate the aggressor mode, it rewards people who are cheep & repeat the same combos over & over again making it much harder for some1 new to the series to pick up & play. On the plus side slightly shorter load times, most of the back grounds from the mk series are there as well as the music from MKII-UMK3. Some of which have been tweeked slightly replacing Shang Tsung with Shao Kahn in the MK backgrounds for instance. All the characters from the series up until that point are included some in 2 differant incarnations(human & cyber Smoke, classic & modern Sub-Zero, Kano, Raiden & Kung Lao). The story in MK is always good & this ties up some loose ends while creating a few new ones to keep things going. The Saturn D-pad is definately more forgiving then the Playstations allowing easier special attacks.The AI is a little bit more forgiving in this conversion then the Playstation release also. This is not a bad game it's just not as good as I was expecting it to be.I still think it was worth the $20 I forked out for it.

The Witcher Limited Edition (Large Box) Review

Were I a member of the gaming Industry right now, I would be shamed to be taught what gaming should look and feel like and how it should be marketed by a small Eastern European company. Who of the multi-billion gaming "giants" ever went back to improve a released game? Yet, there you have it: thanks to CDPROJECT gaming as an art-form is still alive and kicking!

This was the most awaited fantasy cRPG in the past 3 years. Not only did the original deliver, but even more work has gone into truly improving it.
THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL cRPG GAMES I HAD EVER PLAYED - AND NOW IT IS GORGEOUS!

The environments are detailed, realistic, and can be experienced from up close. Grass, flowers and tree branches moved in both FABLE and TITAN QUEST as well; these, however, seem so true I caught myself reaching for my...antihistamines! Weather affects and day-night alterations (you have to see the elongating shadows to believe them!) are just gorgeous! More importantly, these are not just eye-candy: certain NPCs and monsters appear only when the correct combination of time-of-day and weather coincide...The horizon is far and the clouds move in endless variations. It reminded me of the sky of the original UNREAL, another visually ground-breaking game at its time. PURE VISUAL MAGIC!

The character (Geralt) can master both sword-fighting and magic spells (what is known as a Warlock). To some die-hard RPG fans this may seem like heresy, nevertheless, keep in mind that multi-classing is not unheard off. The movement repertoire for both practices are impressively designed. Especially the sword-fighting, it is at par to any console action game. And the spells (both offensive and defensive ones) are not less impressive.

Free roaming? Yes and no. One can decide which parts of the map he will visit but loading is still needed to travel even annoyingly short distances. And since quests and side-quest still have to be completed, yes, eventually a subtle, yet ever present, directionality is present.
Looting and bartering? Aaah...yes, sort of. You practically never change the sword you start off with (although you do get to improve its abilities), whereas good armor is only a little easier to come by compared to PLANESCAPE. On the upside, you get to gamble, have romantic relationships (FABLE was full of great ideas after all!) and bribe for information, so trinkets have other uses as well.
Detailed character modifiers? Nothing like the AD&D rules. You gain talents (gold, silver & bronze) which you can spend to improve your fighting or magical abilities. Pretty much like the DIABLO or the TITAN QUEST abilities systems.

So, apart for the slight action-cRPG handicap, I have only two other objections. First, the...camera placement. Once more the atrocious Aurora Engine (remember NWN2...?) will keep auto-placing it where it is bound to get on your nerves - as it targets your character even if that is not the most logical option. Yes, this has indeed improved compared to the original but one cannot teach an old dog new tricks.
Second, the controls. They need getting used to as the fighting combos are still easily ruined by clicking out of sync. You do eventually get the hold of it, however it keeps glitching.

Nevertheless, its shortcomings are not enough to diminish the breath of fresh air this release brings to the scene. The Enhanced edition not only is a truly reworked game but it also comes full with detailed Manuals, beautiful Maps and all the extras that games used to come with in the good old days...

Whereas the BALDUR's GATES saga was story-heavy but (by today standards) visually wanting and the NEVERWINTER NIGHTS series was found, well, wanting in all aspects, THE WITCHER is the dream cRPG that BIOWARE was supposed to be capable of releasing all along but never did - and its current EA bedfellows surely put a stop to such aspirations now. That game, however, is finally here - and not from whom you would expect.
A tip of my hat to CDPROJECT for keeping the ART-FORM of Gaming alive. Well done indeed!

Aliens Versus Predator 2 Review

If you have ever played the original Aliens versus Predator and enjoyed it you're sure to love its sequel.Just as terrifying as the original, AvP2 is sure to deliver the same thrills and chills as its predecessor (Especially with the lights off).Simply put, the game is intense.
However, it is far from the perfect game, especially on my Mac (which is sad, considering the system requirements for the Windows version are minimal).Unless you have a dual G4 or G5 tower, expect frequent lag and delays in the game.Even with a 1GHz processor, 1 gig of RAM and a 64 meg video card, the game runs too choppy too frequently.In the end, too many visual effects must be sacrificed for gameplay.Part of this problem is the game engine that AvP2 utilizes (The same as "No One Lives Forever".If only it used the Quake III engine!)
Unfortunately, the Aliens are not the only "bugs" in the game either.Loading screens do not display properly at times nor do the different visual modes work all the time (i.e., Marine night vision, Alien vision, Predator infrared, etc.).
Between the slowdowns and the graphic jitters, AvP2 seems like a lousy port to OS X, which is sad since MacPlay has been sitting on this release for over a year now.If you have ever purchased a game ported by MacPlay, then their rushed ports and lack of tech support should come as no surprise to you.Their motto seems to be "At MacPlay no one can hear you scream".
iMac users beware: "Not recommended for iMacs" is clearly stated on the package!This game WILL run slow!
The Good: Awesome game, cool atmosphere, great weapons.Like 3 games in one between the different species.
The Bad: Not much graphic or plot improvement over the original, some graphic and gameplay bugs.
The Ugly: Ported to OS X by MacPlay, Unacceptable frame rates, even with newer systems, too choppy, not recommended for iMacs, G4 chips only

F.E.A.R. First Encounter Assault Recon Review

FEAR is one of the best FPSs I have played in a while on any system.To start, the game play in FEAR is fast, furious, and most importantly fun.FEAR is an extremely fast paced game. There is constant stream of surprisingly intelligent enemies putting up their best efforts to kill you.And if it was not for the extremely useful slo-mo feature, they would succeed much more often than not.Slo-mo may seem so 1999 but the fact still remains that it is freakin cool in this game.Slow motion enables the player to move at roughly 2x the speed of the enemies, thus gaining an extremely useful edge in combat, or even retreat.

Also in you arsenal are a series of perfectly designed weapons.Every single weapon has its place throughout the game; all the way from the pistol to the rocket launcher.This is not DOOM where you start at the guns with the highest number on the number pad.Every weapon is balanced perfectly and has positives and negatives so there is no super weapon.And following along with the somewhat realist aspect of Halo the player can only hold 3 guns plus an assortment of grenades (proximity, frag, and remote).

Also HALO like is the close quarters combat.The player can bludgeon with the but of a weapon, do a spin attack, a jump attack and a diving attack.All of these attacks so some significant damage.However these moves are more suited towards multiplayer combat as opposed to single player where the tactics are more suited towards staying back and picking the enemies off.

FEAR is also one freaky game.And this is coming from one who sees horror movies and haunted houses as more as jokes.There were multiple times i just went oh @&^$! and jittered a bit.The horror aspects in this game are superbly implemented both through freighting visuals and terrifying audio.

Now to FEARs weakest point: level design.This is where the FEAR team should have taken some lessons from the beautifully laid out corridors of Half Life 2. The levels in FEAR just seem so bland and repetitive.I see the same objects, color palette, and walls all throughout the game (the parking garage segment is a welcome exclusion though).Where the masterfully designed levels of Half Life seem like living and breathing places with realistically places objects, FEAR just seems like a concrete maze with some computers and windows thrown in for good measure.The levels in FEAR just do not seem real.I the middle of a underground bunker there is placed a lone cubicle with a phone and a computer. (???) This seems so fake.Another game that exemplifies excellent level design is SWAT4.There are random, everyday objects placed throughout the levels to make them seem more real; magazines, soda can, papers, all kinds of everyday stuff that goes unnoticed.

Now on to the beautiful, but taxing graphics of FEAR.This is one good looking game, if you have the right system.Yeah, you can run this game on low setting, but it looks horrible.Even on my GeForce 6800 Ultra I can usually only run safely on medium settings.And the time demo used to test settings is completely inaccurate compared to real game play.But with everything turned on high this game looks STUNNING.However, for most it will be a stunning slide show on the majority of computers.

The multiplayer composed of FEAR is a nice addition, but is not the main focus of the game.Once again the poor level design comes into play here and on most maps is seems as if you are a bunch of rats fighting in a maze.The map featured in the multi player demo is one of my favorite maps due to its uniqueness.The slow motion in multiplayer is also integrated very nicely with one person, or team holding the slow motion activator that slowly recharges.

Overall, download both the single and multi player FEAR demos to get a taste of what to expect. In general the full game follows the demo experience pretty closely (the full game is hella more scary though and even has some performance enhancements) FEAR is not a HALO or Half Life 2 killer but it is pretty close up there,it is defiantly a game worth buying.The Directors edition even has some insightful extras.It some good stuff.Just go get it.

Unreal Tournament 2004 Review

Well there is nothing stopping you now! The best multiplayer out there is Counter-Strike: Source with the HL2 engine but CS is not a blast `em up and is extremely tactical with a `one death and you are out' type gaming experience in small maps. Since HL2 is totally devoid of another multiplayer then what is the next best frag? Answer - UT2004 of course!

UT2004 is multiplayer all the way. Like UT2003 it has a single player/team co-op that spans the course of what is close to 120 + maps. 120 HUGE MAPS! So basically the single player mode is one big frag-a-thon on some fantastic maps of your choice. The bots have all preset AI or configurable ones meaning that having 30 bots chasing after you on GOD mode is quite possible - not that you will win or anything. So the AI is well up there in single player mode which, although has a massive number of maps, lacks one thing - a story.

A story however is not what UT is all about. UT is about fragging and team play - i.e., LAN parties and INTERNET gaming is the main reason to own UT2004. Did you ever want to fight in that huge battle like at the end of Episode II? Well there is a game mode called ONSALUGHT that lets 18 vs. 18 pit it out against each other taking down node points so that they can be king of the other's castle by blasting up the core. It really does play like that battle scenes of EP II with tanks on the ground, 30+ characters to choose from, several aircraft, ground vehicle, all can be piloted by you, with up to 10 weapons of your choice, each with alternative fire buttons. In the vast maps there are a million ways to die and a million strategies to choose from. There are also some nice new movements like double tap quick strafe and double jumping.

What of the graphics? STUNNING! The graphics in the trailer or screenshots do not do the game any justice. Watch the end of Episode II. It is more like that. Run this game on a Radeon 9800 and you will not stop playing multiplayer for the next 12 months... that is until UT2005 comes out. Realistically enough you can actually fight this first person shooter in 3rd person mode!

In short this game is like it says on the box - UNREAL.

Time Splitters: Future Perfect Review

"EA GAMES!"...that was the first thing that came out of my mouth when I saw the cover art for TimeSplitters Future Perfect a while back. Now, as much as I love EA GAMES, I have to admit I was worried about the TimeSplitters series when I saw it changing publisher. Now all I can say is, "Congratulations Free Radical on another spectacular game!" Eidos, EA, it makes no difference. The boys at Free Rad have done it again. Its been a considerable time since the last installment in the series but the other day I found myself picking up right where I left off in TimeSplitters 2. This made me very happy, to say the least. Some minor and major changes have been made to the series and believe me that their all for the best. The graphics still have some what of a cartoony look to them but have been made to look more realistic. The controls are tighter, as if to say the previous game's weren't, sheesh. Things just don't stop getting better do they? Technically, Future Perfect is the most impressive game I have ever seen. It's framerate is blistering, it sounds fantastic, the animations and effects are wonderful, and best of all the characters actually seem alive. Sure the A.I. in the last game was good, but this time, it is SO much better. The characters take cover, talk to you constantly, never to the point of being annoying, and the look absolutley great. The game's story is also very interesting and captivating, making for a more memorable experience. Where as TimeSplitters 2 dropped you into random time periods to abliterate everything in your way, Future Perfect drops you into random time periods to abliterate everything in your way, for a purpose. I won't give away the story but I assure you it is very awesome. Whether your infiltrating a train yard with 60's super spy, Harry Tipper, or blasting apart zombies in a haunted house, Future Perfect is sure to keep you entertained for hours on end. One of the biggest changes I should point out are that TimeSpitters now has blood...tons and tons of blood. It is gory, gratuious and I love it. This truely adds to the hightened realism the series is seeming to strive for. However, never fear fellow TimeSplitters fans, the classic humor from the previous titles is still intact and funnier than ever. Future Perfect is...well, a perfect mix of both seriousness and humor. Just when you begin to get frustrated, an in-game voice well ease your tension. For example, when I was being timed to hack a computer and becoming just a little frustrated, another Cortez yelled "Hey I know it sucks, I've have to do it twice already!" and the two more chime in, "Me too!" Thats right people, I said another Cortez. Future Perfect allows you to meet yourself through time paradoxes, either a future you or a past you. In either case you'll be helping youself out, and will eventually play out the situation through both perspectives. Not only will you meet up with yourself but many memorable characters return to the series, including Captain Ash, Jungle Queen, Kitten Celeist, Khallos, Jo Beth, monkey, and the previously metioned, Harry Tipper. And thats just in the single player game. Dinosaur, Handy Man, Duckman Drake, and many others return to the insane multiplayer portion of Future Perfect that will have you battling it out in various modes across some of the best multiplayer maps ever.Siberia focuses on wide open combat, allowing players to get into vehicles while most of the other maps allow for more classic FPS action. The multiplayer maps are very diverse, from Vietnam to a swinging 60's club, the mayhem will never end. As in TimeSplitters 2, two players can play the whole single player mode cooperativley and all levels can be challenged on different difficulties. Some classic weapons return to the series with a couple modifications such as the minigun, shotgun, and SBP 90. The new weapons are just plain awesome, double MP5k's, a baseball bat, harpoon gun, and trip mines, to name only a few. You can now throw grenades and use a device on your arm to lift object to hurdle at people. This seems very much like a Jedi using the force and is quite useful for reaching things at high locations. The arcade modes and challenges are up to the previous game's standards and are sure to not not dissapoint...I mean come on, who doesn't want to race a wheeled cat around a race track. As in the last game, Future Perfect manages to pay homage to GoldenEye with a similar train mission. Also, Chinese, Mexican Mission, and Training Ground from TimeSplitters 2 have been revamped, unfortunatly, they just dont feel the same. But thats why new maps have been made. TimeSplitter Future Perfect is a game I would honestly and gladly pay much more than 50 dollars for and is truly one of the best games I have ever played. Time to Split!

Half-Life 2: Episode One Review

I can't understand all of the criticism regarding the game's length vs. price, and its originality.Yes, HL: Episode One is a short game (4-7 hours, depending on how you play, whether you cheat, etc), but it costs less than half the price of a new game (even less than that on Amazon right now).This is a better game, both technologically and in terms of fun, than most full-priced games that are coming out.Why this obsession with game length?I'd rather have a terrific 6 hour game than a dull and tedious 15 hour game!

The GOOD: Graphics are even better than in HL2, they now use HDR lighting effects which look pretty cool.The gameplay is also more refined, with more creative logic puzzles, and better enemy AI.Your sidekick, Alyx, is one of the few computer companions that you actually care about, and she's smart and resilient (ie: doesn't walk into pillars all the time).The story is great fun, too.

The BAD: A couple of the puzzles can get annoying, such as the Antlion sections of level 3.The use of darkness and flashlight is atmospheric at first, but makes it feel like Doom 3 at times, and I don't mean that in a good way.And yes, it'd be great if the game were longer, but that's more a testament to the quality of the experience than a shortcoming!

The UGLY: Those Zombines... ugh.

Bottome Line:If you like HL2, this is a no-brainer.If you like a thinking man's shooter, this is for you as well.Recommended!

Dungeon Keeper Review

I really enjoyed the wicked genre of the game. Some people hate the fact that you start from scratch,but what are the odds that you'll find an underground empire that you don't have to fight for or build yourself. The real trick is keeping your minions from desserting because they have sence of creature comforts to and you have to pay them (what you thought they'd just work for you putting their life at stake with no cash income?) and keep them from warring amongst themselves because they have natural enemies. This game is really humorous (ever slap a bile demon) the creatures reactions to certains actions are normally quite funny. One word of advice never sacrifice/slap the horned reaper. if you sacrifice it the creatures will desert with the tought that you're an idiot for sacrificing the best demon. If you slap him he'll go into a killing frenzy killing everything in sight until is but a bloody wasteland before him this is actually quite funny to watch,but...

Silent Hill 3 Review

Right from the beginning, you get a taste of the horror that awaits you. But, from that point on, the horror only escalates. The hideous creaturs that confront you are straight out of a nightmare. The blood stained wallpaper jumps out at you at every corner. This game is flat-out frightening. I enjoyed Silent Hill 2 for its' merit on mostly gameplay. This game, however, one ups it with incredible and fluid graphics along with outstanding gameplay. Straight out of a grainy slasher flick. The music is also incredible. Most of the stlye of music stems from an undergound alternative style. Somewhat goth, somewhat punk. This game has great length. I finished it in about 20 hours. However, one small downside. This thing is HUGE! It's jammed onto 5 cd-roms. About 3 gig of hard-drive space needed. Plus, you have to consider savegame and memory-swap space. You should have around 4 gig available for this program. That's a hefty chunk. Other than that, this is unbelievable! Enjoy!

I remember this game. Infact I still have it stored away somewhere. It was a futuristic FPS where you could play as 3 different players (a man, a woman and some sort of alien). It stole ideas from the other FPS it was competing with sure, but this one stood out from all the other clones. A decent storyline. If you're a fan of 90's FPS then you gotta find this title. A big bonus is the game had a REALLY creepy soundtrack then is available to be listened to when you pop the CD in your stereo.

THIEF Collection (The Dark Project, The Metal Age II, and Deadly Shadows III) Review

First off, let's talk about what's in the box.There are three games.The first two were created by Looking Glass Studios, and are EXTREMELY well-made games.The third was made by Eidos and was fine, but not as enjoyable as the first two.To those who started with Thief III, you have no idea how "open" the city was in the first games.That said... after Looking Glass folded, at least the third part of the story did get told, albeit in somewhat "consolized" form.

THIEF came to me, originally, in my sound card's bundle.I didn't think I'd care for it, but it was free, so I tried it, and fell in love with the game.It's not about stealing...not exactly.Yes, your way of making a living is a bit disreputable, but hey, you end up saving the world...so I guess that can be forgiven!

The original game was called "Thief - The Dark Project."This "collection" box actually holds "Thief Gold" which is a subtly reworked version of that game (with several new levels, new creatures, and so forth... stuff that was supposed to be in there but got cut for time in the original release).The other two games are the original releases, albeit fully patched.There is a small problem with these game and later operating systems, where the video codec (INDEO) becomes unregistered from time to time.This is an easy fix, of course, and I believe that they have installed the (fan-derived) fix into this package.(This is a slightly odd circumstance where Microsoft originally carried Intel's INDEO codec, but dropped it after some sort of conflict with someone at Intel, and not only removed it but seemingly caused it to malfunction on occasion if you install it yourself!)

There are some issues with video cards... particularly nVidia cards running recent drivers.Any video card with more than a certain amount of memory will not run the first two games without some "tweaks" being put into place.This is not the fault of the games, it's the fault of the shifting "DirectX" definitions over the years, and the fact that nVidia changes their supported features without regard to "legacy" coding.Again, this can be fixed, but you'll need to spend a brief period of time searching the 'net to get the fix (which, as far as I know, was not incorporated into this package, oddly).The best place to look is at a website called "Through the Looking Glass"...[...].Any questions about how to make these games work if you have problems, you'll be able to answer from there.

(I understand that ATI cards don't have the same issue that nVidia cards do, but I don't know that from personal experience.)

ANYWAY... once you get the games up and running, be prepared for an experience like no other. (I'll mainly discuss the first two games, since the third game is significantly different in terms of game mechanics.)

If you want to fight... get another game.Yes, there is combat, but your character is really pretty weak, compared to most enemies.Go toe-to-toe with an enemy and you'll be reloading your game momentarily, as often as not.No, the trick is patience, stealth, and tactics.Know your environment.Study your enemies.Think, don't just "run and gun."

On the harder difficulty levels, you are often prohibited from killing anyone, and if you do, you fail the mission.In a few cases, you're required to avoid ever being detected at all.

Thief I is a bit less polished, graphically, than Thief II, and Thief III has more "polish" overall, but really doesn't look better than Thief II in my opinion, since you're seldom going to get "in the face" of your enemies.But if you expect modern graphical photorealism, you're playing the wrong game.These games look good, but they're not graphically up to modern standards.And that's OK, honestly... the gameplay makes up for it.

Your best weapon isn't a machine gun, or a "mega-sword."It's a blackjack... useful for knocking out (without killing) guards.

You need to read scrolls and books to learn what's really happening throughout the story.And it's a REAL story, not just a framework for a few missions.

Yes, you steal treasures throughout the game.Whatever you steal during a mission becomes the money you get to spend to support you while you equip yourself for the next one.So... if you steal very little, you have very little cash to buy required equipment the next time around, and gameplay becomes harder.Oh, and on higher difficulty levels, you are required to steal a certain amount of loot in many missions.

There are NPCs you interact with.They're well-written, for the most part, but not "Alex Vance" type characters.And they're merely polygonal, without moving lips, for that matter.Just remember, technology has advanced rapidly, but creativity hasn't... so don't let that bother you.(By the way, the closest current equivalent to this is "Dark Messiah - Might and Magic," which could, with minimal effort, be used to create further Thief games...they even have "rope arrows," with Eidos left out of Thief III, but which were fundamental to Thief I and Thief II.)

I've played the first two games through several times, but only played the third game through once, though I expect I'll give it a second effort sometime soon (I've restarted the series recently, with the release of this "collection" package).It's still my all-time favorite gaming experience... and I think I'll wrap up here and head off to rescue my fence, Cutty, from Cragscliff Prison.Want to join me?

Spartan: Total Warrior Review

Spartan: Total warrior is an action adventure game made by Sega. The game takes place around 300 B.C. in ancient Greece. The Spartan (the only title given to him), along with his only friends, Castor and Pollux must defend the city of Sparta from the Roman empire.
One might think that this game is merely a hack-and-slash, but there is more depth to the controls and story than a typical game of that genre. Instead of smashing one or two buttons to attack enemies or press switches, there are many combinations of buttons one can push in order to attack one foe, or many. Moving the spartan is done with the left stick and the camera with the right. There is actually a bit of strategy in this game. You can't just run around hacking enemies, they will block. At times The Spartan will have to kick a foe to make him lose the grip on hi shield for a second, giving you the chance to attack with the sword. Strategy is essential if you want to live in this game. I haven't noticed many problems with the camera, it is easily controlled and rarely positions itself at an odd angle. The Spartan can attack a single foe, do a swinging attack to hit several enemies while also clearing the area in front of him, fire a bow and arrow along with some special attacks. One of these special attacks is a rage attack. As The Spartan hits enemies he builds up rage, when the rage meter is about three quarters full, he can do a rage attack. This is done by holding R1 and pushing one of the attack buttons. During a rage attack the game will go into a short slo-mo mode and The Spartan will perform an extra violent attack which usually results in decapitations. The rage attack can also be used with the bow to shoot many arrows very quickly. Another special attack is the "Power of the Gods," The Spartan can do a wide range lightning attack on enemies by filling up the gauge associated with the special attack. This is done by collecting blue orbs that appear after killing enemies, or praying at shrines located at various points on the map. There are two types of shrine, one will fill your "Power of the Gods" and the other will fill your life. While praying at a shrine you are vulnerable to attack and once the shrine is completely used, it crumbles. Occasionally, enemies release green orbs which will fill your life a little.
Every level starts with an introduction of objectives. The Spartan will be given orders to perform various tasks, usually consisting of killing everybody, or protecting certain people. Occasionally The Spartan will need to control arrow turrets and arm explosives in order to complete the objective. The Spartan is never alone on the battlefield, he always has his friends by his side and many spartan warriors to assist him, although they never seem to do a lot to help. Game play is very fun, but at times can be very frustrating. Spartan: Total Warrior is not the typical easy hack-and-slash, this game is hard! There are many enemies, fellow soldiers, and sometimes civilians on screen at once. There are times when it can be hard to keep track of the objectives and your health. I have died many times while playing and it does get frustrating. Because of the difficulty, when you do finally finish a level, it feels very rewarding. It's nice to know that this game was not made to be excessively easy and can be enjoyed by people who like a good challenge. Graphically, the game is about average for the Playstation 2, but the amount of on screen action is very impressive. I have not noticed any slowdown even with hundreds of enemies charging at me. The sounds are good, screams and decapitations sound as realistic as they need to. Voice acting is well done, everybody sounds like they look.
Beside the regular story mode, there is an Arena Challenge mode where The Spartan is pitted against many enemies at once, the higher the level, the more enemies. Throughout the story mode you can find secrets, which will unlock special armor, weapons and the such for Arena Challenge.
Loading times are mediocre, there is a little bit of a wait at the beginning of each level, but no loading during the level. There are regular check points also, so if you need to take a break you can always exit and save, then come back at the last checkpoint. Sometimes it seems that the checkpoints are to far between, but that just adds to the strategy of the game.
Over all, Spartan: Total Warrior on the PS2 is a very fun and challenging game. I would recommend this to people who like games such as Devil May Cry and God Of War.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance Review

My jaw nearly dropped the first time I saw an ad for this game in a gaming magazine (forget which).Ever since the cliffhanger (again) at the end of Soul Reaver 2, I have been eagerly awaiting the next installment of the franchise.Now that it's finally here, I can proudly say that it doesn't disappoint.This is now the 5th game in the series, but is also by far the superior one of them all.The best news is that what the LOK fans truly love about the games, that being the excellent voice acting and intriguing story, is as good as ever.The story truly unfolds like an epic tale of deceit, manipulation, destiny, and vengeance.This is also the first game in the series where both Kain and Raziel are playable characters within the same game.
In terms of the game itself, it plays very easily.The new combat system works great, giving you the ability to take on multiple enemies at once.The mid-air combos work well and and that extra bit of flair.The characters also are granted special new abilities as their combat experience increases, giving the player incentive to stand and fight instead of running away.The reaver also gets many new enhancements in the game, both as the physical and wraith blade, and even includes an energy meter that when full, can be used to unleash a powerful wave attack on multiple enemies.Also, both Kain and Raziel now posess telekinetic abilites that, when used in a fight, can hurl enemies onto sharp objects, or push them off a ledge to their death.
The bonus features on the disc are great.During the game, both Kain and Raziel can collect tomes to unlock bonus features from the main menu, which generally include concept artwork and storyboards from previous LOK games.The Dark Chronicle is also far superior, for this time, you can watch the cinematics from the game as you progress, instead of just written transcripts of the action.When the game is beaten, you get access to video recordings of the voice sessions, 3D renderings of the characters and environments, and more concept artwork.
I have to say though that one change made is both a blessing and a curse.The new camera system, which uses a fixed position instead of previous games where it followed the character, simultaneously gives you both a wider view of the action, but also can be a pain in the rear when in combat.There are times where you could be facing an enemy and if they move behind a pillar or staircase, the camera doesn't rotate and the obstruction keeps you from seeing the fight, not to mention you can't see your enemy!It also makes jumping onto platforms more challenging because it doesn't center behind the character, as in previous games.
I really can't say anything bad about this game.It has much more of an action feel to it, but with the added bonus of superb voice acting and the most intriguing and complex storyline of any franchise to date.Do yourself a favor and pick up this game.If you're a hardcore LOK fan like me, you should already own a copy.For you newbies who buy it, get the other games as well.It will make for a fantastic experience, not to mention it'll be a lot less confusing.

Warpath Review

This game could have been good. The graphics are good (not great, but they're up to date), and the menu and interface are well designed and it's an inexpensive game. Thats where the good things end.

The AI in this game is ridiculously easy. I'm an experienced FPS player, and I beat the entire game in one brief sitting on medium difficulty. The gameplay is identical to Quake (as the game is based on the Quake engine),and each "battle" is either a Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, or Assault match, and they get repetitive very quickly. The weapon upgrade system is also flawed as you need to reapply the weapon upgrades each time you respawn, which takes time, and in a speed-deathmatch style game usually gets you killed.

The plot in this game feels like it was thrown in as an afterthought. The intro and ending videos are merely in-game screen capture videos that lasta couple of seconds each, and the plot is explained through blocks of text. Seriously, who wants to read what's going on in a video game? The plot itself has no development at all, and merely consists of an intro paragraph describing the planet and the war, and a conclusion paragraph after you beat the "boss".

Speaking of the boss, he actually beat ME when I played the game, but thanks to a huge unresolved bug, the game thought I beat the boss and let me see the 4 second long ending cinematic and ending paragraph. The boss level is the only difficult match in the entire game.

A couple of other things that I didn't like about the game: you can't skip the intro cinematics (the studio logo, etc) when you start the game. It's only 15 seconds long, but still annoying. Also, when I checked the multiplayer I found 6 servers with 12 people total playing. That's just sad.PRO:

Yakuza 2 Review

When Sega's Yakuza for the PS2 finally came stateside a while back, it offered up a decently entertaining brawler at best that just didn't do too much to seperate itself from the rest of the pack.Yakuza 2 thankfully, and surprisingly, improves on much of what the first game offered in terms of gameplay, graphics, and story; and is a pretty satisfying brawler that will keep you entertained for some time.Playing once again as Kazuma, you traverse through a nicely detailed Japan, and are still looking to put an end to your days with the mob.The game looks solid for a late-in-life PS2 game, offering up some nicely detailed characters and environments, while gameplay-wise the moments of brawling are easy enough to pick up and get into, and other elements bear more in common with the gameplay of the classic Shenmue.There's a lot of secrets and extras to find and uncover as well, and as a whole, Yakuza 2 will keep you busy for a while at the very least.The game's story is also nicely crafted, and offers up some memorable moments and characters.The only real flaws with Yakuza 2 is that there isn't too much here you haven't seen done before, and while for a PS2 game it looks great, there are some noticeable graphical hiccups.Flaws aside however, Yakuza 2 is a surprisingly good improvement on the first game that ends up being an enjoyable and even more surprisingly immersive experience that PS2 owners should definitely check out.

Quake 3 Arena is a great game.The weapons are hardly groundbreaking innovations.But why would they need to be?I own both this and Unreal tournament and for pure deathmatch competitions nothing beats Q3A.It'sfocus on gameplay over a multitude of weapon modes is what really allows itto shine.Games like UT can become to bogged down in the cuteness andnovelty of 25 weapon fire modes.And let's not even talk about theunbalancing caused by the redeemer.
On another note, the Amazon overviewof the game is completly incorrect.A)There is no flamethrower built into the game, some mods include one, but ID did not.B)What playerclasses?Again, there are some great mods which provide team fortressgameplay (Weapons Factory and Q3Fortress), but character choice isinconsequential in relation to gameplay in vanilla Q3A.

Soldier of Fortune is a conversion of an 18-certificate PC game infamous for its politics and excessively violent nature, a first-person shooter straight out of the Quake II school. Four nuclear warheads have been stolen by a terrorist organization; they have to be retrieved and the people responsible eliminated, and thus you must make your way from A to Z, hitting switches, opening doors, and laying waste to a near endless supply of henchmen. The visuals are solid if unspectacular, but offer a variety of locations and environments. One level may not differ greatly from another, but it's thoroughly entertaining stuff, and atmospheric as well thanks to some moody background audio. Surprisingly for a console FPS, the joypad actually gives a tight, intuitive control (keyboard and mouse are also supported).
There are drawbacks that stop this title short of greatness. The enemy AI is lacking and can result in soldiers standing motionless while their comrades are shot down around them. Slowdown does occur towards the end when the terrorists throw everything they have at you (including a helicopter gunship), and long loading times between levels don't help the cause either. There's no online play, but the lack of any multiplayer options at all is a more severe omission--this would have given longevity to a game that's absorbing but lacks true replay value. --Jonathan Winter

No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy In H.A.R.M.'s Way Review

The world of first person shooters is getting a bit played out. There's pretty much two kinds of them: the realistic military type (Counterstrike, Ghost Recon, Operation Flashpoint) and the sci-fi type (Unreal, Alien vs. Predator, System Shock). In all this, there's not much room for improvement and things are getting a bit repetitive- all you do is go in and kill everything that moves, and solve (or cheat) your way past the occasional puzzle that primarily exists to justify putting a longer gameplay figure on the box. Looking at most new titles, the only really interesting thing is even more detailed graphics and effects, which- by the way- mean you need a new PC.
Enter No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in HARM's Way. This excellent shooter and sequel to an excellent shooter is the type that will save the genre. Here's why:
System requirements: You don't need a new PC to run this game, but this doesn't mean it looks like the original Doom. More on that later.
Gameplay: There are some puzzles, but they aren't annoying or counterintuitive. It is possible to get past some levels without killing anyone. Curiosity and inventiveness pay off here, but if you can't do that, you can usually just go in with guns blazing.
Something new: The game has some nice additions from the original NOLF. Most significant of these are skills. Completing primary and secondary objectives and finding intelligence items gives you points, which you can invest in 8 different skills that all have a significant impact on gameplay. Additionally, there are new and cool gadgets to play with. Many of them auto-activate when necessary, which disposes of the annoyance of having to switch over to use them. HARM also has some new hires and allies, including French mimes (no, I didn't make that up). Do you need any other reason to play?
Story: This is what really makes the game fun. The voice acting and cutscenes (all done with the game engine) are superb, and really draw you into the plot. As you might guess from the title, the usual suspects are up to no good once again. It's a tossup as to whether this is more of a James Bond or Austin Powers kind of script, but whatever it is, it's a good one.
AI: The NOLF AI is smart- as good as any other game I've seen. They take cover behind objects, go prone, roll out of the way of grenades, and seek you out if you make noise. The AI characters also act like real people. If you pick one of them off with a silenced weapon, they'll be confused for a second and then load their guns and start looking around. If you can see them, they can see you, and given enough time they definitely will.
Replayability: Due to the detail of the levels, it's unlikely you'll find everything there is to find on one pass. Also, the AI behaves in a random enough fashion that every time you play an area the outcome could be very different (if you don't believe me, just try reloading a save). Also, you don't have enough skill points to advance to the max in every area. Playing again with a different set of skills is quite fun. For example, try going all-out stealth and health instead of firepower and attempt to sneak your way through places you blasted by earlier. It's arguably more exciting trying this!
Graphics and sound: This is the first game I've seen that models expressions believably. The Jupiter engine has the look and feel of something that would require a cutting-edge machine to run, but goes smoothly on an average computer. It is, quite simply, astonishing. There's a huge amount of interaction with the environment, and things have an almost movie-like appearance. The characters are especially a pleasure to see, due to the attention to detail. Ms. Archer in particular has had a gorgeous makeover- she is arguably the hottest woman in any game to date, even including live motion actresses. Oh, and by the way, the soundtrack is killer.
Multiplayer: The version of the game that shipped did not have significant multiplay support. This has been remedied. Updating to the latest version gives you deathmatch, team deathmatch, cooperative, and assault game modes. Additionally, there are plenty of maps out now. The only thing missing here is bots, which is a bit of a pity considering how good the AI is. I'm sure someone will think to add those later.
If this isn't enough to convince you, the setting is just plain cool. This is the 60's, folks, complete with President Johnson, neon colored clothing, retro-tech spygear, and even a bellicose American general. The characters that populate this world have true depth and, more often than not, are good for some great laughs. Lastly, this game is probably the best deal you'll ever see at such a low price. Don't miss out- grab NOLF 2 while you can.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Mission Pack: Desert Siege Review

I bought Ghost Recon when it first came out. I looked at the back of the box, and figured I would take a shot (an expensive one) at this being a good game. I was VERY happy I did. Ghost Recon is the BEST military game EVER made. The only problem with it was that it's too short. The additional 8 missions are well worth the price. There are also some cool new weapons. The scene is the Desert, instead of country side like in the original. If you own Ghost Recon, I reccomend this expansion pack. If you don't own it, buy them together, it's winning combination.
Note: You will NEED the first Ghost Recon to run this game.

For RPG gamers and real-time strategy wargamers, Myth is a must-have. The game is available for both PC and Mac, which will give Mac wargamers something to cheer about.
The game is set in a fantasy-land, with you as the commanding general. Your skills will be needed to battle the evil minions that plague the land. Each scenario is a direct advance from a previous scenario, so the continuity of the game ends up feeling more like an RPG than a simulation or wargame.
The game controls will take a little time to get used to, but once mastered will enhance gameplay. For true wargamers, the strategies you employ are vital to your army's success. You can manipulate one soldier, several soldiers, or all soldiers in any combination. You have dwarves (who throw molotov coctails at oncoming fiends) and archers who act as a first line of defense. Protection of your troops is, in this game, just as important as making sure your enemies are sliced and diced. You have ten formation options, which can greatly enhance your army's effectiveness.
The game is very playable, extremely exciting, and not easy to win. Becasue it plays in real time, there is no way to pause and regroup (Pause? yes. Regroup? yes. Do both at the same time? Not really). Your army is vastly outnumbered in many of the scenarios, and it will take your cunning ways to out-maneuver and out-flank them.
The game has a few pleasant surprises (maybe not for your army, but YOU will be intrigued by them), which make the game that much more fun to play. This is a game to buy and keep!

Dracula Resurrection Review

i did this recently in windows, after having completed the "last sanctuary" for mac. my like for the last sanctuary caused me to purchase the resurrection. what i found is that the resurrection is very short and easy. i would normally give a poor rating for this except that the graphics were wonderful, the story engaging, and the atmosphere outstanding. for example, the game opens in eastern europe on a freezing night. the fields and farm buildings convey the chilling surroundings perfectly (incongruously, the pond is not frozen). despite its easiness, there were a couple of difficult places; i spent 2 days pixel hunting for one item in draculas castle, but it turned out to be large and in plain sight. dracula 2 takes the good aspects and adds a lot of length and difficulty.
i think that dracula 1 would be better as part of the second game rather than a separate game in itself.

Soldier of Fortune II Double Helix Review

I bought this game while shopping for a more modern tactical shooter.I'm and ex Counter-Strike junkie and I've played Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Medal of Honor:Allied Assault and quite frankly I'm a bit sick of the current trends in online gaming as well as the community in general.I was looking for something with a lot more single-player replay value.
I'm sure by now everyone knows a little bit about SoF2 so I'll omit the overview and get straight to the point.This is basically just another Q3A mod with more blood and gore.Like RTCW and MOHAA, the graphics are good and technology seems sound, but for such a latecommer I believe it's reasonable to have expected a bit more.
The single-player campaign is your typical linear shooter.Run around, do these things in order, pick up more weapons, etc....The story itself is terrible - think Max Payne meets the A-Team.There were some great ideas mixed in, and I really appreciated the more modern military feel, but by now we're all getting a bit tired of the same format.The random mission generator looks appealing, and was a major factor in the decision to buy this game, but it becomes redundant far too easily.If you intend on purchasing this game only for the single-player features, I would strongly recommend some serious comparison shopping before putting the money down.
As previously stated, I'm not much of an online gaming fan, but I felt it was necessary to give the MP games a chance before writing this review.To my surprise, MP is pretty darn fun!It supports the usual team-oriented games (CTF, TDM, etc...), and doesn't add anything revolutionary to the mix, but the combination of the modern weapons and outdoor themes really made this a blast.Compared to what's currently out there, SoF2 does the best job in mixing action with simulated warfare.Unfortunately, the Q3A "feel" or the game is still there.The damage system is a bit too forgiving, and I don't know how anyone could jump around with 80lbs of gear on their backs, but I guess this is the way people like it.If you're a big fan of Half-Life and Quake mods, you'll feel right at home with this.Counter-Strike fans will probably consider it on the goofy side of the spectrum, but I think they should still give it a chance.
Of course, my biggest gripe with most of the online shooters is this:Even the best laid plans and teamwork can be spoiled in a heartbeat by some rambo running around with a grenade launcher.
Anyways, SoF2 is a shining example of modern game technology that's just starting to become dated. It can easily be worth the price tag, but I fear that in less than 2 months it will take it's place on the shelf next to the other Q3A-driven games and collect dust.Not the tactical shooter I was looking for, but I'm glad I had a chance to play it.

I missed out on this game years ago and finally decided to check it out because it takes a different perspective. You get to play the EVIL guy, which is a refreshing change from all the goodie-goodie antics of typical games. Even though saving the universe is cool, on off days I feel differently. A little part of me has always felt a little sorry for Evil Guys like Skeletor and the multitudes of other fictional bad guys. They work so had figuring out new, difficult complex schemes to foil the hero, only to have their diablical plans destroyed so easily because of the hero's brainless super strength or charm. Not in this game! I wont go into details but if you wanted to be an evil mastermind and torture your enemies and your henchmen too, this game is for you. If sometimes you feel like if you don't give a hoot about whether the mystical land of "Fantasia" goes up in flames due to the loss of some mystical bauble, or endlessly questing for a pair of dragons balls, BUY THIS. You wont regret it. Some people prefer the original game over the sequel, but I found either game to be enjoyable in their own right. Dragonkeeper 2 has better graphics and some new features, but found playing the original helpful in learning the overall gameplay. Have fun BWAHAHAHAHA

All the characters from the first three Mortal Kombat games return for the ultimate battle. Clive Barker's Undying Review

In Clive Barker's Undying, you take on the role of an occult investigator named Patrick Galloway.You've arrived at the request of an old war buddy, Jeremiah Covenant, at his manor in the hopes that you can solve the mystery of its hauntings and find out what exactly happened to the other members of his family.
The first thing that bears mentioning is that this game is actually scary.The suspense is high and the atmosphere is enveloping.The original Quake is the last game that held my interest this way (Thematically, I prefer supernatural adventures to futuristic ones like Unreal and Quake II.)I had to keep a light on while I was playing this, especially in the early stages.
There isn't a lot of logic to the proceedings, the most glaring example being the way housekeeping staff casually go about their chores as other workers are being slaughtered a couple rooms over.But if you can ignore things like this, you'll get by.
Graphics are impressive.Though things like sky and water are not as exquisitely rendered as in Unreal, other scenery still looks great.The snowfall in the monastery level, in particular, is beautiful.Monsters look real and other characters look nice as well (Was I the only one who was sorry to see Lizbeth go?)Cinematic cutscenes are well directed and exciting.You almost forget you're watching a computer game.
Just as important is the sound which puts you right in the middle of the action, with well-defined directionality (try rotating while one of the servants is talking to you.)
The game isn't exceedingly difficult to work through.My biggest difficulty was getting lost in the mansion and monastery, because I just don't have a great memory for finding my way around those kinds of scenarios.(I had the same problem with the Sunspire Tower in Unreal.)Puzzles aren't too obscure.
Complaints regarding the lack of multiplayer capability are not legitimate, in my opinion.The story is such that having more than one player simply wouldn't make sense.This isn't a blastfest.
My only real complaint concerns the amount of resources required to play the game.Unbelievably, the manual actually suggests you shut down *every* background process (via task manager) other than Explorer.You shouldn't have to do this, and in fact you don't, although it took me a lot of fiddling before I finally got the game to run.It still crashed a couple more times while I was playing, but that was forgivable (as every gamer knows: save early and save often!)At the very least, make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card.
I finished the game today and I have to say that I am quite satisfied with it.It isn't perfect, but it will keep you entertained (and frightened) for a good while.For the budget price it's now selling for, it's a great deal.

Unreal Tournament 2003 Review

The hype surrounding this game was pretty incredible for a PC release. The first UT was so mind-blowing at the time it came out, not only for single-player but also online play. Most importantly it was somewhat original and a lot of fun.
I must say the graphics for UT2k3 are top-notch. A lot of attention was brought on the possible requirements for a game with several times the polygon count as its predecessor, which is understandable. My PC has a Duron 1.3Ghz processor with 512MB of RAM and a Geforce256 graphics card. It runs UT2k3 reasonably well with average settings, which shows you they put a lot of effort into the 3D engine to accommodate computers with less-than-fantastic specs. The body physics and movements are very realistic, especially when your opponents fall to the ground.
I have problems with a few of the game's main features though. The weapons are just too boring for the caliber of game that UT2k3 was hyped up to be. A few of them seem so out of place, like they're from a poorly designed mod. I don't know how the GES Biorifle made its way AGAIN into the final version. The minigun now does much less damage than the one in the original, which never seemed too powerful anyway. The rocket launcher is no longer able to fire more than 3 shots at a time, and lacks the true '2-function' mode as the first. Many die-hard gamers were angry about the Lighting rifle but its not so bad...I don't like the look of the zoom-in scope though. On the bright side the flak cannon is still a good weapon for close quarter combat and the link gun is also useful at times. The assault rifle is a good alternative to the handgun in the first but the grenades are too weak in my opinion, and hard to aim. The shock rifle is also back and is a decent choice.
But my biggest complaint is the sound effects. NONE of the weapons have the authoritative bang of the first, which were often too loud at times! The rocket launcher lacks the distinct vacuum effect of the missile's tube like the first UT. The grinding and 'lead-intensive' sound effects from the minigun were also removed, which drew inspirations from Jesse Ventura's character in Predator. And the annoying high-pitched announcer that declares the winner and killing successes gets old real fast. The announcer in UT was perfect and deserves his old job back over this thing. I have to admit the music is amazing. It would fit well into most sci-fi movies.
That's my take on the new UT. What bothers me the most is they came so close to getting it right. If you just want a new online thrill you probably wont mind as much, in fact you'll probably love this game. The netcode is almost flawless from my experience. But I was expecting the weapon selection to exceed all previous FPS standards, instead I was let down by what seems like a poor selection of armaments for future combat.

Carmageddon Review

Cuz this game should not have been made. It is the most poor excuse for a pc to home console port available. My friends and I, well we liked the PC version of this game. It was a bloody, pointless, mindless game but it was fun. This game isn't bloody, it has zombies that appear to have bad throat infections cuz theyspill this green stuff when you hit them and they disappear. Where'd they go? we expected something that was at least entertaining but we got zombies that evaporate when touched. Lost is all of the good that was Carmageddon for PC and we end up w/ the one of the worst games by one of the worst software houses ever, Titus. Take a quick pick and see what Titus has done and you'll think they need to retire from software programming and become shoe salesmen. This game should have never been made especially on the n64 which is a kiddie console and loathes the sight of blood. Don't buy this game, don't even rent this game cuz you will waste your'e money and will agree that Titus is the WORST developer of all time, PERIOD.

Kagero: Deception 2 Review

And not only is this one of the most original video games I've ever played, but it's easily one of my favorites on the Playstation. Forget flashy graphics -- gameplay is what Deception II is all about.

GAMEPLAY - 9/10
Run about the castle setting various pitfalls for the bad guys (which include knights, assassins, wizards, peasants, ninjas, and many others) and watch them die in the most horrible ways as they cluelessly set off your fiendish traps. The gameplay is simple, yet their are many choices to very be made. Do you want to smash someone with an iron ball or fry them with an electric rod trap? You can also buy new traps between missions as you rack up points so that your collection is always growing.

GRAPHICS: 6/10
Rough, but still pretty good for a PSX game. Besides, the roughness adds to Deception II's charm, which is dark, very dark, and downright weird.

SOUND 8/10: Some very good music, most of it suitably dark and atmospheric. Likewise are the sound effects well done, from explosions to the snap of bear traps to the groans of dying victims. Thankfully, the dialogue in this game is text-only, as video game voice acting is usuallyquite horrible and instead of enhancing a game usually detracts from it.

BOTTOM LINE - 8.5/10
As far as Kagero games go (three are available on the PS1 and one on the PS2 called "Trapt") Kagero: Deception II is in a class all its own. Yes, despite its inferior graphics, Deception II is actually a BETTER game than Trapt. If you're looking for one Kagero game to get, make sure it's this one. In short, Deception II is a strange and unique game and one of the few PS1 titles I continue to play.

Unreal Tournament Review

This is far and away one of the most addictive, hands-down BEST games I've played in quite awhile. The game design is incredible, and the game runs spectacularly even on low-end systems! The internet code is fantastic, andthe weapon balance and enviroments are mind-blowing. This game is king ofthe multiplayer first-person shooters. Team Fortress 2 remains to be seen,but unless it makes a lot of improvements over it's brethren (Tribes forexample) it may not last long. As for Quake 3 . . . from the demo, it lookslike Unreal may be the winner. It really depends on your preference - ifyou want deathmatch until you die on far-out worlds battling as strangeunhuman characters, you'll probably be leaning towards Quake 3 when itcomes out. If you want lots of options, realistic enviroments andmind-bogglingly great gameplay, graphics, and other stuff, buy UnrealTournament right now! It also has beautiful graphics and incredible sound.The character models are great and flawlessly animated. PSP God of War Entertainment Pack - Red Review

I'm sure most gamers have added this as their second or third PSP, but for me it's my first. I thought I'd make some suggestions for new users.

1. Before you do anything else, buy a memory stick, a Pro Duo. You can't do anything useful without it.

2. Buy a USB cable (5 pin mini). It doesn't come with one, and you'll need it to download stuff from your PC to the PSP.

3. Buy a protective case and screen protector. I bought a Joytron case and InvisibleShield. The Joytron fits perfectly on the slim.

4. Be careful when connecting the PSP to older computers. It's very powerful, and I overloaded the USB port on my older work computer when I tried to connect it.

5. When transferring music or video to the PSP, here's how you do it:
a. Plug in the PSP, and go to "USB Connection" in the menu
b. Wait for your computer to recognize it
c. Go into My Computer and look for the drive where the PSP is
d. Open the PSP
e. Look for the Music folder (or Video)
f. When moving music over, first create a folder with the album title on it in the Music folder on the PSP, *then* copy over the music into the folder. For example, I created a "Battlestar Galactica Season 1" folder inside the Music folder on the PSP. Then I copied over the MP3s. Copying whole folders gives you an error.

6. Sign up for the Playstation Store. You can download free demos of many popular games (like Patapon), along with themes and wallpapers for the PSP. I like this method of free demos, because I can have multiple demos on my PSP and only carry two UMDs with me and never get bored.

If you have bought this game and are trying to install it on your windows system.The LSL 1-5 were DOS/Windows 95 games, and for you to install them on your windows 98/98se/ME/2000 system.You have to do the following:
1.When you run the installer, it will ask you if you want to do a system test on Larry 1 VGA-Larry 7.Say no to the system test, the system test only works for Windows 3.1 to Windows 95, it does not work for Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000.
2. Once you say no to the system test, the program will show you what the system test skipped.When it asks you if you want to install Larry 1 VGA-Larry 7, individually of course, say yes. Then after the install, you should be able to run these old DOS (Larry 1 VGA to Larry 5) on your Windows machine.
I found this out the hard way, by calling a Sierra tech support person.If this has helped you in any way, please let Amazon know, this is a great game series once you can getting it working on your Windows pc.

Soldier of Fortune II: Gold Edition Review

SOF2 is what soldier of fortune 1 SHOULD have been. All the unrealistic sci fi weapons are gone. Gone is the stupid Comic-book villain wanna be bad guys. And finally we have a selection of REAL weapons to choose from, complete with selective fire, alternate fire modes, and some other nice touches.
SOF 2 definatley improves on the first. Based on the quake 3 engine, the graphics are pretty good, though not always great (by modern standards). There is an abundance of bland textures and less that perfect character models. Over all though, the graphics are pretty good, though in some places the detail is definatley lacking.
The infamous GHOUL engine form the first game, which allows for dismemberment and all sorts of gruesome graphical effects is back and much improved. Bullets holes and even throwing knives will now show up anywhere on a model where it is shot (the first game only had pre ploted points on models so you might shoot someone somewhere and have the bullet hole show up 2 inches left of there - but no more). The gore is more detailed and grittier than ever. More precise damage effects are obvious - shoot someone in the face and you can blow of thier jaw, or rip part of thier skull off. Really nasty stuff. Occasionaly a grenade will leave behind a dark real pool of sausage meat looking stuff that actually gave me shivers. But somethings are missing here... there are no more intestines hanging from the belly like in the first, which I thought was the nastiest effect in the game. There is also no graphic deption of brains either. Though what was done is surely disturbing enough. You'll want to keep this one away from the kiddies.
The weapons are fairly accurately modeled - much better than the first, but there isnt enough of them. Nothing like in Counter Strike or other games. Nor are there any varients of the main weapons, and the ad ons like laser sights are VERY few. The guns dont feel very different either. The game is still an action game and I suppose it plays the roll well - though more attention to realism here would have been good.
Gameplay goes from great, to disapointing. The story tries to use some "half life" tricks, but it ultimatley fails. And many of the missions and levels are pretty poor. The character AI is also pretty sad, and not believable - also the gameplay is completely linear. The environments arent very interactive, and the game feels old by the time you're half way through it. Online multiplayer is good, but not great... I still prefer counterstrike.
The random mission generator is a GREAT addition - atleast on paper. In practice it creats bland, unintriguing missions and maps, and creates the same ones over and over. THere is no real pressence of urban combat or interesting environments. and in general I feel disapointed.
The game is fun, and a VAST improvement over the first, but gameplay needs tweaking and the developers should both focus on detail and realism (this game needs polishing) as well as get a little more creative.
No doubt though, many SOF fans will be MORE than pleased with this game as it fixes the most obvious faliures of the first.

Well i have been playing this game since it came out, and i must say that this game is excellent. By todays standards the graphics are really bad but that does not matter, this game is just really fun, just running around killing zombies and demons with cool music in every level. I think the first doom was better but this game is still great, and i think its better then doom 3.

Dead to Rights is a fun game that is something different.It's not very pretty and it's not all that polished either, but I still had a pretty good time playing it.
You can't compare it to another PC game, because there isn't really one like it out there.There is a huge variety of activities in the game.One thing that you can't say about "Dead to Rights" is that it's repetitive.About 50% of the game is arcade-style shooting sequences where you run around desperately blasting anything that moves.About another 25% is spent fist fighting gangs of enemies.The rest is spent playing minigames or doing something else.Whatever you are doing, the action never lets up, and it never gets boring.
The gun battles in the game are usually pretty hard.There are a dozen enemies on the screen shooting at you with AK-47's, uzis, or shotguns.Meanwhile, you run around the room, finding cover, shooting back, or occasionally taking a hostage and using him as cover.You can also disarm enemies at close range, or even sick your dog, Shadow, on nearby enemies.Your doggy is one of the most powerful weapons in the game.
The controls are awkward only at first, but once you get used to them, they are pretty good. You don't actually use the mouse to aim in this game.You just right-click the mouse to target a guy, shoot him, and then right-click again immediately to shoot the next guy.You can circle-strafe around a guy with your eyes closed.The only problem that I ever had with the controls was the auto-targeting, which sometimes doesn't auto-target the enemy who is closest to you.This is aggravating, since sometimes a guy will be right next to you blowing you to bits with a shotgun and the auto-targeting will shoot at a guy across the room.The game also has "bullet-time", but it seems like a poorly done afterthought here.It's not very useful, since you can only use it to dive and shoot forward.You can't shot dodge to the left and shoot a guy in front of you like you can in Max Payne.This exposes you, and makes it more dangerous than just shooting normally.I stopped using "bullet time" about halfway through the game and just relied on taking hostages and using my puppy Shadow.
The game's story isn't great, but at least it's good enough to keep you interested in the game.It doesn't matter a whole lot in the end though, because basically all you are doing is gunning down wave after wave of enemies, or punching them out.The graphics in the game look like something out of the year 2000.Characters and objects look blocky and ugly.Plus, characters don't even move their lips when they talk.Either that, or they move them at random without any lip synching whatsoever.The cut scenes look pretty stupid because of this.The voice-acting isn't spectacular, but at least the main character (Jack) has some good one-liners."Dead to Rights" isn't supposed to be a great drama though.It's supposed to be like a Hong Kong-style action film, and it's pretty good at that.
This game gets lots of extra points for having so much variety.There are a ton of mini-games and different sequences.There is a boxing speedbag minigames, lockpicking minigames, and a few sequences where you get to play as Shadow, the dog.There is also an exciting chase seen where you try and gun down a convoy of cars from a helicopter, and many others.They seem a little silly sometimes, but that's okay, because this isn't a realistic or very serious game.

As far as length goes, this is your standard action game - about 10-12 hours.The production values for the game are what I see as the game's biggest drawback.I got a lot of enjoyment out of "Dead to Rights", and I recommend it for PC gamers who are looking for something different to add to their collection.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3, Gold Edition: Raven Shield / Athena Sword Review

I've been an avid Tom Clancy FPS PC fan since the first Rainbow Six was released almost 10 years ago.

Recently, I had been playing America's Army: Operations since its release in July of 2002. But after awhile, the game got repititious (same weapons kits over and over and over again), cheaters became rampant (aimbots and engine mods up the wazoo), and deathmatches (to me) were exciting when Doom first came out in 1994. The multiplayer aspect NEEDS to have some type of evolution.

Fast forward to Rainbow Six 3 Gold Pack! You get the Athena Sword expansion pack along with Raven Shield for a great price.

Rainbow Six 3 is based on the same Unreal 2 engine used for America's Army Operations. You can go prone now for more stable sniping positions (wasn't possible in Rogue Spear). You can slowly open doors, toss a frag/flashbang/smoke and close the door in one fluid motion.

Game Engine: I'd say its pretty decent for a tactical FPS.

There are some glitches like getting stuck by a door, and not being able to lean in certain spots on the maps. There is also a bug where you cannot move when you first deploy in a multiplayer game. If you hold down the forward key, you can only move forward until you let go and wait 1-2 seconsd.

I'd like to see a more powerful M67 frag grenade. Right now, you can toss a frag and only breach a door w/o hurting the tango right behind it. The M67 is supposed to have a 15m blast radius which should effectively clear the room of all tangoes, blow out all the windows, and cause a ringing in your ear if you're in the area.

I'd also like to see Lean Toggle like in AAO. I have to hold down the lean key, strafe key, and movement key - I start playing hand yoga on my keyboard afterwhile.

Weapons Choices:

Athena Sword adds a few extra firearms but IMHO, the overall selection is better than the standard choices for many of the other Tom Clancy games.

It lacks variety of pistol calibers, pistols, and proper damage modeling. For instance, the game has 45 Auto (ACP) as having LESS damage than 40 S&W. In reality, 45 Auto cuts a larger temporal wound cavity and expands to nearly 3/4" after hitting ballistic gelatin.
The choice of JHP (Hollow Points) has no effect on damage in the game. I can shoot a soft-target in the head with JHP and it may take 2 more shots to finish the job.

I would like to have seen a 44 Magnum Desert Eagle, a Glock 20 (10mm Auto), and maybe .380 ACP and even 22 LR.

For rifles, they did a decent job of choosing the most common battle rifles. What they left out were the M203 40mm grenade launcher, M136 AT-4 Recoil-less anti-tank launcher, and GP-30 Russian grenade launcher. I'm pretty sure they did this because Rainbow is supposed to be a HRT-type team and NOT a full-on military assault team.

I would have liked to see multiple accessories:
suppressor + high capacity magazine + mini-scope because that is more realistic. You can slap on a Beta mag on a M16, along with a Gemtech and Trijicon ACOG w/o any problems. The rifle would be REALLY heavy, but it's do-able in real life.**************************

Graphics:
The character modeling is decent, and I love the ragdoll physics! Some improvements are in order but otherwise it's fairly decent!

The rifle modeling, OTOH, leaves something to be desired. The iron sights weren't done right on the M16/M4.

Single Player:
The maps, as usual, were fairly robust. There's lots of detail and the environment is just overall very realistic.

Multiplayer:
Typical deathmatch stuff, but Athena Sword adds Count Down and some other stuff.

My favorite is Cooperative Tango Hunts. I'm not sure if this is new because I've never tried Rainbow Six or Rogue Spear multiplayer, but Cooperative play against the PC isn't all that bad. Just pretend you're playing against 40 people that all have aimbots, accuracy mods for pistols and submachineguns, and occaisonally look in the wrong direction.

Sounds:

Rifle sounds are sometimes accurate, and sometimes not accurate.
Pistols are way off for most except the SIG P228 9mm. The P228 makes a "POP POP POP" sound, which is the same as you'd hear with any 9mm Luger semi-auto pistol. In fact, 45 Auto pistols sound the same as well, just like firecrackers.

but in the game, the HK Mk 23, P228, Glock 17 (Iron Wrath Addon), and USP 40 S&W all make different sounds when fired. My guess is that they did this for variety. It would be rather boring to hear the same sound effects. However, I find myself choosing the P228 + High Cap mags all the time because it sounds more realistic.
I recommend you download some of the Raven Shield community map packs and practice by yourself.

Overall, this game is totally worth it and I hope my review wasn't too boring.

Quake 4 Review

Whoa! Some folks are comparing this to DOOM! No way! Firstly, the AI is much improved. You aren't stuck in constant corridors where the AI doesn't have to have a brain. It just has to 'be' right in front of you, and come at you.
Not so here. I have actually watched the enemy AI step away and hide behind a pole until i passed the pole and shoot me in the back! You gotta keep your eyes on this one.
Of course, it can be a system hog. I have a P4 3200 + 1 GIG DDR RAM + 256 MB DDR PCI EXPRESS ATI VIDEO + SOUND BLASTER AUDIO. With those specs, i got a REALLY sweet framerate that hardly dropped under 75 fpm. That with a 1024X768 screen setting and *MOST* features cranked. I was glad they alowed key binding to be changeable, and that they included the save anytime feature also. NO FREAKIN' CHECKPOINTS! I see minor comparisons to HALO and DOOM and even F.E.A.R. But, not so much that the game feels derivative. I thought the graphics were sweet at the settings i chose. And, the weapons sound incredible. You can almost smell the gunpowder. This is worth every penny.

New World Order Review

This is a great realistic team base first person shooter. However you do need to have a good computer. I am running a 3.0Ghz with 512MB and a geforce graphics card and this game runs great. The guns are real life weapons and not futureristic (which I hate). You also can't beat the price. If you like first person shooters and are looking for a great game at bargain price go buy this.

Quake 2: Quad Damage Review

This is an awesome collection! The QUAKE 2:QUAD DAMAGE box set is great! I personally like QUAKE 2 more than QUAKE 3 ARENA. There is a fairly solid single player game and a truly excellent online multiplayer component! People still play QUAKE 2 deathmatch online!
In QUAKE 2, you play a tough space marine that gets stranded on an alien world and of course, you must fight your way out. This is standard FPS fare, but it is still a lot of fun. There are over 30 levels so you won't get bored anytime soon. Most of the puzzles are "find the key to open the door" stuff, but these very puzzles get a little more challenging by the end of the game!
QUAKE 2:QUAD DAMAGE comes with the two Mission Packs, The RECKONING and GROUND ZERO. Both are a continuation of the events in QUAKE 2. These are almost impossible to find on their own and it is awesome that they are available in the box.
Now the real fun of the QUAKE 2:QUAD DAMAGE box xet is the inclusion of the mod disc EXTREMITIES. EXTREMITIES is a collection of mod maps, skins, and deathmatch maps all done by fans of the QUAKE series. These are some of the best mods ever for QUAKE 2 and it should not be missed!
All in all, this is a great and awesome action game collection and I heartily recommend this box to all action, FPS, and QUAKE 3 fans who have not yet played QUAKE 2. It is a classic!

Condemned has to be one of the more screwed up games I've played in the last years...Actually, until now, this would be one of the first bizarre games I've played.It's about a serial killer who is playing around with the police by committing a series of brutal murders.These people who were killed were not random people, no, they were other serial killers.You are an FBI Agent (Ethan Thomas) who is sent in to track a serial killer down by unraveling the clues he leaves behind.With the story, you encounter a lot of other beings who are unexplainably deranged and they come at you with either a pipe ripped from the inside of an old wall or a piece of thick wood with rusty nails sticking out of it.You usually only find guns on occassion, but you mainly do whatever you can to survive...You use a pipe, big pieces of wood with either nails or bolts sticking out of them, or anything else from big signs or boards.You beat the living hell out of anything and everything that comes at you to stay alive and keep coming closer to the truth behind this killer.That isn't it though, you discover more about yourself (the character you play in the game) and learn that you've had exams with a doctor and he finds some abnormalities in your brain, but I'll stop at that.You begin to go a little bit insane yourself as you keep seeing this strange monster-looking being in black and white illusions...All the way to the end.This game gets into your skin.People often compare this game to FEAR because it uses the FEAR engine (which I don't think it does, but I could be wrong).Don't compare this game to FEAR because they are not the same.Overall, an interesting game.

Half-Life 2 Review

I stopped keeping time after 2am so I can't be sure what hour it is, nor can I tell you when I ran out of the cannister of Malt Balls and Peanut M&M's I brought as supplementation.What I can tell you however (in the humble opinion of a dedicated PC gamer for 15 years), is that Half Life 2 is the the most mind blowing game I've ever played.

I was at E3 with my pyscho gaming buddy cleaning the Pizza flavored drool off his chin when we got a preview of HL2.Like most, I counted the days, cursed Valve and Sierra for delay after delay, put all my faith and hope into Doom 3, was underwhelmed, went back to playing Desert Combat...basically went insane with anticipation.

In the brief moments before firing up HL2 for the first time, I was hopeful, but expecting to be dissapointed.

And I was.

Really, no multi-player!I'm one of those that have an absolute allergy to single-player games.Small beads of angry sweat began to form on my back...

But I soldiered on, and in:

10 minutes I was impressed,

at 30 minutes I was completely immersed,

at 1 hour chills were running up and down my spine, and occasional girlish yelps of horror began emanating from my pitch dark office...

...by the third hour I came to the conclusion that HL2 was/is the most impressive game software I've ever had the privilege of living in.Some highlights:

1.The engine is truly revolutionary.Doom 3 has a darn good engine, HL2 in my opinion is vastly better.Indoor AND outdoor environments are near photo-realistic (I have a 3.2GHZ w/ 1GB RAM), the physics are jaw-dropping AND deeply integrated into the play of the game, texture and lighting, faces, water, you name it, this engine is now The Standard.

2.Vehicles.Well, not only do they have them, they're really fun to operate (or be chased by as the case may be).

3.The Gravity Gun.This weapon comes later in the game, and in my humble opinion, is easily the most fun weapon I've ever used.Picking up and throwing items, using it to activate latent elements of the environment (often as weapons) is unbelievably fun.Which brings me to:

4.Humor.This game has some really funny moments.I almost busted a gut when I ran out of heavy/sharp things to fire at zombified creatures that were teaming up on me in close quarters.I desperately pulled over a large can of paint, fired, and splattered huge gobs of white paint all over their (now more upset) faces.I died, but I died laughing.And finally:

5.Immersion.The screams were obvious signs of immersion, but beyond that, I noticed myself making facial expressions of anger, empathy, anticipation...all throughout the game I found myself genuinely caring.That's a first for me.

I really could go on and on, but I can't, literally, I fear that dawn isn't far from my window and I'd like to pretend that I myself won't be a zombie tomorrow.

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil Review

Personally, I thought Turok 2 was an awesome game.The graphics were verygood, the sound effects were good, and the music was by far some of thebest Acclaim has come out with.This game has some sweet levels.Most arevery large and take quite some time to explore.And with levels like TheHive, you feel like you're actually there.Extremely gripping and intense. As some have said, there aren't the tons and tons of monsters to blow awayaround every corner, but if you want a game like that, play DOOM.In Turok2, the monsters are a little more realistic.Hordes and hordes of monstersisn't realistic, but a group of about 2 or 3 waiting in ambush around acorner is.Very well done. I've played it through several times and Ienjoyed it every time.
